I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Citadel Inn on P Burgos Street, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another mid-range hotel in Makati. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you, and this four-star spot really grew on me during my stay.

The thing about this place is its location – and I don’t mean that in the typical “convenient location” marketing speak way. P Burgos is actually this interesting little pocket of Makati where you’ve got legitimate business hotels mixed with some of the city’s nightlife scene. It’s sort of perfect if you’re traveling for work but want to grab a decent meal or drink without taking a taxi across the city. There’s this great Korean barbecue place literally two blocks away that the front desk guy recommended (honestly, some of the best galbi I’ve had outside Seoul), and you can walk to the Makati Business District in about ten minutes if you don’t mind the heat. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid four-star in Manila, but with better attention to detail than most. The air conditioning actually works – and works well, which anyone who’s spent time in the Philippines will tell you is not a given. I mean, the décor isn’t going to win any design awards, but everything feels clean and maintained. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and the blackout curtains are thick enough to block out the street lights from P Burgos, which can get pretty bright with all the signage.

What really sold me on the place, though, was the staff. The front desk team seems to actually know the neighborhood – not just the tourist spots, but where to get your laundry done quickly, which convenience stores stay open late, that sort of practical stuff. And the breakfast spread, while not huge, has this mix of Filipino and international options that actually works. The longsilog is legit, and they make a decent enough cappuccino. Parking can be a bit tight if you’re driving – there’s a small garage, but it fills up fast during busy periods. I’d honestly recommend just using Grab if you’re staying here, since traffic in this part of Makati can be brutal anyway. The only real downside is that P Burgos can get a bit noisy on weekend nights – nothing terrible, but if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe ask for a room on the higher floors facing away from the street. Overall though, for the price point and that 8.7 rating it’s got, I’d definitely stay here again. It’s one of those places that just does the basics really well without any fuss.

Hotel in Manila booking should be done early, especially during festival season when the city hosts internationally celebrated cultural events and street parades at historic venues.

  I stayed here again recently, Ann is a fantastic host, the unit is nice and clean, has AC, has Netflix and Youtube, all the facilities you need, located in the heart of the entertainment district, will always book again, this is the perfect place to stay in Makati!
