Pearl Of The Orient Tower, in front of US Embassy Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Pearl Of The Orient Tower, in front of US Embassy? The name makes it sound way more touristy than it actually is. I mean, sure, it’s right there on Roxas Boulevard with that iconic bay view, but this four-star place has more of a business hotel vibe that honestly works in its favor.
The location is pretty brilliant if you think about it – being practically next door to the US Embassy means the area stays relatively quiet and well-maintained, which is something you’ll appreciate in Manila. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels along Roxas, and the traffic noise can be brutal, but here it’s surprisingly manageable. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Manila Bay, which is perfect for those evening strolls when the heat finally breaks. The mall scene is close by too – Robinson’s Place is right there if you need anything, and honestly, having that air-conditioned escape route nearby is clutch during the humid afternoons.
What I really liked about this place was how they handle the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. Check-in was smooth (they actually seemed prepared for international guests, probably because of all the embassy business), and the rooms are larger than you’d expect for Manila standards. The beds are properly firm – not that soft, squishy stuff you sometimes get in hotels here that leaves you feeling like you slept in quicksand. The bathrooms are well-maintained, though the water pressure can be a bit temperamental in the morning when everyone’s getting ready. The AC works hard and doesn’t give up, which is non-negotiable in this city. You’ll notice they keep the common areas pretty cool too, and the elevators are fast enough that you won’t be standing there forever with your luggage. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well – I asked about getting to Makati during rush hour and got actual useful advice instead of just “take a taxi.” They even knew which jeepney routes to avoid, which tells you they’re paying attention to what guests actually need to know.
