You know what caught me off guard about SMDC Coast Residences – The Happy Place? It actually lives up to that cheerful name – and I’m usually pretty skeptical about places that brand themselves as “happy.” But honestly, there’s something genuinely uplifting about this four-star spot along Roxas Boulevard that makes it feel less like a typical condo-hotel and more like… well, a place where you’d actually want to hang out.

The location is what really sold me on this place. I mean, you’re right there on Roxas Boulevard with the Manila Bay just across the street – not some distant view you need binoculars for, but actually walkable to the baywalk where locals go for their evening jogs and weekend family time. The sunset views from the higher floors are honestly spectacular, especially if you snag a unit facing west. What I appreciated most was how it feels removed from the chaos of central Manila without being isolated – you’ve got SM Mall of Asia literally a short ride away, plus all those seaside restaurants along the strip. The Grab drivers know exactly where it is, which sounds minor but trust me, it matters when you’re tired and just want to get home.

The residences themselves have that modern Filipino hospitality thing down pat. The lobby feels spacious without being intimidating, and the staff genuinely seems to remember your face after a couple days. I stayed in a one-bedroom unit that was surprisingly well-equipped – full kitchen, decent Wi-Fi (important for work calls), and air conditioning that actually keeps up with Manila’s heat. The building amenities are solid too, especially the pool area which gets great light in the afternoons and doesn’t feel overcrowded even on weekends. What impressed me was the attention to practical details – good water pressure, reliable elevators, and parking that doesn’t require a engineering degree to navigate. Sure, some of the furnishings show their age a bit, and you’ll occasionally hear your neighbors if they’re particularly enthusiastic about karaoke night, but that’s just part of the Manila experience. For the price point and location, it’s honestly one of the better options in the Pasay area, especially if you want something that feels more like a temporary home than a standard hotel room.

• A happy stay at The Happy Place! – Aw from United Kingdom – February 20, 2025 (10/10)

  This conveniently located apartment with great view, offering truly excellent value for money, would be our first choice on our next visit to vibrant Manila.  A few nights was not long enough to explore all the many attractions exciting Pasay has to offer.
  
  We hope our truthful review will be helpful.
  
  The Host kindly enabled a prompt check-in/out, assisted by helpful 24 hour security.  The Happy Place is on a high floor which, from the compact balcony, has a great view of Pasay, the coast, the airport and distant mountains – firework displays, too!
  
  'Welcome' coffee was thoughtfully provided (a supermarket is very conveniently located less than three minutes walk away) with a useful microwave, fridge-freezer, TV, aircon and essential toiletries.
  
  The comfortable bed – a great night's sleep! – is against the wall on three sides however is large enough for the 'enclosed' person to get out at the bottom.
  
  (We were unsure if the washing machine was usable – would the seemingly 'disconnected' pipe cause any flooding? – but, if needed, we are sure our helpful Host would have assisted promptly.)
  
  Mentioned to avoid disappointment, the large, well-maintained 7th floor rooftop-style swimming pools – adult and children – if required, are charged at PhP150 (PhP300 on public holidays) per person per day.  Do note, the ground floor office selling pool tickets is closed from 1pm Saturday and all day Sunday.  This excellent pool, even at most busy times, still had loungers free.
  
  As mentioned, The Happy Place is well located, with restaurants to suit every nationality's palates (5 mins walk away, King Jian Bao Restaurant is outstanding!).
  
  To summarise, The Happy Place is excellent value and ticks all essential boxes for a happy stay.  Thank you, Host, for your valued assistance – highly recommended!
