I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Golden Phoenix Hotel – Manila on CBP D. Macapagal Avenue, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. The Oceanaire Building looks pretty standard from the street, but you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you. This four-star spot sits right in the heart of Pasay, and once you’re inside, it actually feels like a completely different world. The lobby has this warm, welcoming vibe that immediately made me forget about the chaotic traffic I’d just navigated through Manila‘s busy streets.

What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to balance that professional hotel feel with something more personal. The staff genuinely seem to care – not in that rehearsed way you get at some chain hotels, but like they actually want you to enjoy your stay. I mean, the front desk guy remembered my name the second day, which doesn’t happen often. The rooms are solid too, nothing fancy but everything works the way it should. The air conditioning is strong (trust me, you’ll need it), the Wi-Fi doesn’t drop out every five minutes, and the beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night. The bathrooms are clean and modern – hot water pressure is actually pretty decent, which anyone who’s traveled around this area knows can be hit or miss.

Location-wise, you’re really well positioned here. Macapagal Avenue can get crazy busy during rush hour, but that also means you’re connected to everything. The airport is surprisingly close – I caught a taxi there in about twenty minutes during off-peak hours, though I’d budget more time if you’re traveling during the morning or evening rush. There’s decent street food within walking distance if you’re feeling adventurous, and plenty of proper restaurants nearby if you want something more predictable. Honestly, the area comes alive at night in a good way – not rowdy or unsafe, just buzzing with activity. I found myself just wandering around some evenings, which isn’t something I usually do in unfamiliar cities. The hotel itself gets quieter after about 10 PM, so if you’re hoping for a good night’s sleep, you’ll probably get it. Overall, it’s one of those places that delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises, which in my book makes it worth considering if you’re looking for solid value in this part of the city.

  Breakfast was satisfying and tasted very good. I suggest that the restaurant ( for breakfast) be opened earlier say 5.30 am for guests catching up their morning flight. Incidentally, we needed to " rush" our supposedly sumptous buffet breakfast in time for our 8 am flight (Manila to Zamboanga). The room was excellent – spacious, well-maintained and with adequate toiletries, among others. I would recommend other people to stay at Golden Phoenix Hotel because they can be sure " they will get value for money".

  The room was huge and very clean. The window was huge with a great view. the location of the hotel was also very good. It was very close to the SM Mall of Asia, and there were quite a few convenience stores around.
  
  What could be improved: For Muslim travelers, dining options were very limited. Most of the breakfast options had pork in them.
