Midas Hotel and Casino Overview
You know what struck me first about Midas Hotel and Casino? It’s actually got this really solid presence along Roxas Boulevard – not trying too hard to impress, but definitely holding its own among the bigger players in the area. I mean, when you’re staying practically next door to the airport in Pasay, you expect a certain level of chaos, but this place manages to feel surprisingly calm once you’re inside.
The four-star rating feels pretty honest here – they’re not overselling themselves, and honestly, that’s refreshing. The casino floor has that familiar hum of activity without being overwhelming (though if you’re sensitive to cigarette smoke, maybe stick to the upper floors). What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Manila proper without dealing with EDSA traffic, the concierge gave me this local route that saved me probably an hour – that’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t get from a guidebook.
The rooms are pretty solid for what you’re paying, and here’s something I didn’t expect – the soundproofing is actually decent despite being so close to a major boulevard. Sure, you’ll hear some street noise if you’re a really light sleeper, but it’s not the constant honking symphony you might fear. The beds are comfortable enough that I slept through my first alarm (which, let’s be honest, might have been the jet lag talking). What really won me over was the view from the higher floors – you get this interesting perspective of Manila Bay that’s not quite postcard-perfect but has character, especially during sunset when the light hits all those container ships and ferries. The whole area comes alive in the evening, and being right there on Roxas means you’re walking distance to some really good local seafood spots that the tourists staying in Makati never find. I’d definitely stay here again, particularly if I had an early flight – the convenience factor alone makes it worth considering, but it’s got enough personality that it doesn’t feel like you’re just crashing at an airport hotel.
