I’ll be honest – when I first heard about the Penthouse studio at Fame Residence 41st Floor, ShangriLa-Megamall, I was skeptical. A four-star place right on EDSA? But you know what, sometimes being wrong feels pretty good.

The elevator ride up to the 41st floor is actually kind of thrilling – Manila spreads out below you in this sprawling, chaotic way that somehow makes perfect sense once you’re looking down at it. The studio itself hit me right away with floor-to-ceiling windows that basically turn the whole space into a observation deck. I mean, you’re literally living above one of the busiest stretches of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, but from up there, all that EDSA traffic just looks like streams of light. The space is compact but thoughtfully laid out – they’ve managed to fit everything you need without making it feel cramped, which honestly impressed me more than some sprawling hotel suites I’ve stayed in.

What really works about this place is the location, and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient location” way travel sites always say. You’re connected to Shangri-La Plaza, which means you can grab everything from high-end shopping to decent coffee without dealing with Manila’s street-level chaos. There’s something oddly luxurious about being able to pop down for groceries at the mall’s supermarket in your slippers, then head back up to your sky-high perch. The Megamall connection is huge too – I actually found myself wandering over there at weird hours just because I could, picking up late-night snacks or catching a movie. The MRT station access is clutch if you’re planning to explore other parts of Metro Manila, though honestly, the ride down from the 41st floor and through the mall connections takes a few minutes, so factor that in if you’re rushing somewhere.

The studio comes with a kitchenette that’s more functional than I expected – I ended up cooking a few meals instead of eating out constantly, which my wallet appreciated. The bed faces those massive windows, so you’ll either love waking up to the sunrise over the city or you’ll want to invest in the blackout curtains they provide. Air conditioning is solid, which you’ll need because even at this height, Manila’s heat finds a way in. One small thing that bugged me initially was the elevator wait times during peak hours – lots of residents and guests mean you might wait a bit, but it’s hardly a deal-breaker. The whole Fame Residence setup feels more like a high-end condo than a traditional hotel, which I actually preferred. There’s less hand-holding and formal service, but more freedom to just live in the space. For the price point and that view, especially if you’re staying more than a couple nights, it’s one of those places that grows on you. You start feeling like a temporary local rather than just another tourist, which in a city like Manila, is worth quite a bit.

  Very good all in all. Comfortable, clean, relaxing, it has a nice view from the balcony, it has almost complete appliances for 1-2 person who can live.
  
  What could be improved: I'm not sure if the exhaust is working, we couldn't find the switch or that will make the exhaust activate. And some ants crawling on the floor, but only a few.

  Room was spotless with comfy beds. Absorbent bath towels and toothbrush were provided. Microwave, electric stove, small washing machine and water heater were available. Kitchen utensils were provided though I didn’t use much of it. Close to Shang place, mega mall and Shaw MRT station. Wifi signal was strong. Overall, a very nice place!
  
  What could be improved: Place is a bit cramped and sofa bed was very uncomfortable. My stay included Friday and Saturday nights and neighbours were partying until 4 am; I didn’t get much sleep for two nights.

  Beautiful Penthouse. Very clean. Organized. The Location – the place we stayed was exceptional- excellent views, close to a lot of amenities I.e. Shangri-La and SM megamall. Very quiet place.

  What could be improved: Netflix not readily available. Towels not absorbent. Spoon and fork very flimsy. No one to assist with luggages. I was told to bring them up and down myself. Guards as receptionists. Bellboys don't assist with luggages because they need to mind the doors? The 2 x pillow covers were not washed. Smelt like a man has slept on it previously. Duvet size too small. Sheets from previous guests were still in the closet.
