Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Perfect for Couples – Makati City Comfort and Style, I rolled my eyes a little. I mean, talk about being on the nose, right? But you know what, after spending a few nights there on Yakal Street, the name actually fits better than I expected.

The thing about this four-star place is that it sits in this interesting pocket of San Antonio where you’re close enough to all the Makati action but not drowning in traffic noise at 2 AM. The intersection of Yakal and Malugay isn’t exactly tourist central, which honestly works in your favor – you’ll find decent local eateries within walking distance that aren’t jacked up to expat prices. There’s this carinderia around the corner that does killer adobo, and the staff actually pointed me toward it instead of pushing some overpriced hotel restaurant. That kind of thing matters when you’re trying to get a feel for Manila beyond the bubble.

The rooms themselves have this sort of boutique hotel vibe without trying too hard – think clean lines, decent lighting for actually reading in bed, and thank god, proper blackout curtains. The AC units are newer and actually quiet, which is huge if you’re sensitive to that constant humming some places have. I noticed they’ve put real thought into the little details couples actually care about: there’s enough mirror space that two people can get ready without bumping into each other, power outlets on both sides of the bed, and the shower has good water pressure (seriously, why is this so rare?). The Wi-Fi held up even when I was video calling back home, though it did get a bit spotty during what I assume were peak evening hours.

What really sold me on the place was how the staff handled things without being overly formal about it. When I mentioned I was celebrating an anniversary, they didn’t go overboard with rose petals and champagne – instead, they quietly upgraded us to a corner room with better city views and left a simple handwritten note. It felt genuine rather than scripted. The location means you can easily grab a taxi or Grab to BGC when you want the full modern Manila experience, but you can also just wander the neighborhood streets when you want something more authentic. Parking isn’t a nightmare if you’re renting a car, which honestly surprised me given how cramped this area can get. The whole setup just works well if you want to feel like you’re experiencing the real city rather than hiding from it in some sterile international chain. Sure, it’s not luxury in the marble-lobby sense, but it’s comfortable in all the ways that actually matter when you’re trying to enjoy a trip with someone.

  I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Ma Ree’s; it was a very cozy home away from home. The location was great with various restaurants innthe buikding itself; and the host is exceptionally thoughtful, very accommodating and helpfully responsive. Communication was smooth and swift. Highly recommend place to stay.
  
  What could be improved: It was a very large, popular and therefore very busy residence building and as one would expect, it felt congested at times – esp in the lifts. However, there are a number of lifts and they run quite quickly.

  First of all, it is an apartment on a skyscrapper, so no reception, just security at the entrance of the building. The apartment was very clean and had everything a house could have. You can use the building swimming pool by paying a small fee (around €2,5 per day). The area is safe but a bit far from the old town, asia mall and other atractions, and public transport is not that great. But taxis are pretty cheap. There is variety of restaurants and bars around the building or at walking distance of 10-20 minutes.
  
  What could be improved: The curtains were very thin, so a lot of light in the morning from early on. There was a malfunction in the bathroom, but the host was very polite and tried his best to find a solution. Not being a hotel, I could not leave my luggage in the entrance for some hours until I leave for the airport.

  Stayed here for two and a half weeks with my husband and toddler and the space was perfect for our little family. Amenities were clean, staff and guards were helpful, view of Ayala Ave and Makati was great and the best part was having a SM Supermarket downstairs to grab last minute groceries especially if you have a little one or were just feeling especially snackish. The place was also equipped with an oven, another foldout lounge (for an extra bed if need be), a vacuum and a tv for all those days you just want to stay in and chill. 10/10 would look into booking this place again for our next stay!
