Shangri-La The Fort, Manila Overview

You know what really struck me about Shangri-La The Fort, Manila when I first walked into the lobby? The way they’ve managed to create this bubble of calm right in the middle of what’s honestly one of Manila’s busiest business districts. I mean, you step out onto 30th Street and you’re immediately in the thick of Bonifacio Global City – all glass towers and corporate hustle – but inside, there’s this serene atmosphere that actually lives up to the Shangri-La name.

The thing about BGC (that’s what locals call Bonifacio Global City) is that it’s sort of like Manila’s attempt at creating a mini-Singapore, and this five-star property fits right into that vision. What I really appreciate is how they’ve positioned themselves – you’re literally walking distance from some of the city’s best shopping at SM Aura and High Street, plus all those rooftop bars that BGC is famous for. But here’s the insider tip: the hotel’s location on the corner of 5th Avenue means you can actually escape the weekend crowds pretty easily by heading toward the quieter residential side of the fort.

The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from Shangri-La – spacious, well-appointed, with those floor-to-ceiling windows that give you proper views of either the city skyline or the mountains in the distance. Honestly, the bathrooms are probably bigger than some hotel rooms I’ve stayed in elsewhere in Southeast Asia. The service has that distinctly Filipino warmth to it, which I mean in the best possible way – staff genuinely seem happy to help rather than just going through the motions. Check-in was smooth even during what I gather was a busy conference season, and they sorted out my early arrival without any fuss. One small thing though – the Wi-Fi can get a bit sluggish during peak business hours, probably because of all the corporate guests, but it’s nothing deal-breaking. The pool area on the fifth floor is actually a nice surprise; it’s not huge, but it’s got this urban oasis vibe with decent city views, and surprisingly it’s usually pretty quiet even when the hotel’s full. If you’re here for business, you’ll love being so close to all the major offices in BGC, and if you’re here for leisure, well, you’ve got easy access to Manila’s most walkable district plus grab cars to everywhere else you’d want to go.
