The Westin Manila Overview
You know what struck me first about The Westin Manila? It’s tucked into this surprisingly quiet corner of Ortigas Center where San Miguel Avenue meets Lourdes Drive, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from the location initially. I mean, Ortigas can feel pretty corporate during the day with all those glass towers, but this spot actually works really well – you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the main drags to avoid the worst of Metro Manila’s legendary traffic noise. The hotel sits right next to the Wack-Wack Golf Club (which locals just call Wack-Wack), and there’s something oddly soothing about having all that green space as your neighbor in a city that’s usually wall-to-wall concrete.
What really got me was how this five-star place manages to feel both polished and lived-in at the same time. The lobby has this sort of understated elegance – marble and dark wood, sure, but not the kind that makes you feel like you’re going to break something expensive just by breathing. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 2 PM because they actually stick to their timing here, unlike some places that’ll bend over backwards to accommodate early arrivals. The rooms are what you’d expect from Westin – those signature beds that somehow make you sleep better than you do at home, rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure (not always a given in Manila), and floor-to-ceiling windows that give you a proper sense of the city sprawling out below. I stayed on the 15th floor and could see all the way to Makati’s skyline on clear days, which honestly surprised me.
The pool area is where this place really shines though – it’s on a higher floor with views that make you forget you’re in the middle of one of Asia’s busiest cities. I spent way too much time up there just watching the sunset paint the sky orange while traffic crawled along EDSA in the distance like tiny ants. The fitness center is solid too, open 24/7 and actually equipped with machines that work (you’d be amazed how often that’s not the case). For food, you’ve got decent options without having to venture far – there’s a Japanese restaurant that locals actually frequent, which is always a good sign. Parking is valet only, but they’re quick about it, and honestly, in this part of the city, you don’t want to be hunting for street parking anyway. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing – not just going through the motions but actually paying attention to details. It’s the kind of place where business travelers feel at home but couples won’t feel out of place either, and with that 9.1 rating, I can see why people keep coming back.
The luxury concierge service in Manila offers personalized access to traditional Filipino cooking classes, fine dining experiences, and VIP cultural events in this vibrant capital of the Philippines.
