I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Lovely 1 bedroom at Vista Shaw Residences, I wasn’t expecting much from the name alone. But after spending time in this four-star spot on Shaw Boulevard, I actually came away pretty impressed with what they’ve put together here.

The thing about staying in Manila is that location really makes or breaks your experience, and this place gets it right in ways that aren’t immediately obvious. Shaw Boulevard might not sound glamorous, but you’re actually in this sweet spot where you can walk to decent restaurants without dealing with the absolute chaos of, say, Makati on a Friday night. The MRT station is close enough that you don’t need to budget extra time for traffic nightmares, which – trust me on this – matters more than you think when you’re trying to get around the metro area. I mean, there’s still traffic because it’s Manila, but it’s manageable traffic.

What surprised me most was how quiet the actual apartment stays despite being on a pretty busy street. The building’s design does something right with sound insulation, though you’ll still hear the occasional jeepney if you’re a light sleeper. The bedroom itself is genuinely comfortable – not just “good for the price” comfortable, but actually well thought out. They’ve got blackout curtains that work (small miracle in Southeast Asia), and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a dying washing machine, which honestly puts it ahead of half the places I’ve stayed in the Philippines. The kitchen area is compact but functional, and you know what? Sometimes you just want to grab some fresh mangoes from the local market and eat them without having to dress up for a hotel restaurant. There’s a small balcony where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch Manila wake up, which has its own particular rhythm if you’re into that sort of thing.

The building itself feels more like a proper residence than a hotel trying too hard to impress, and there’s something refreshing about that. Security is solid without being intimidating, and the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real recommendations instead of just pointing you toward tourist traps. They told me about this hole-in-the-wall place two blocks over that serves incredible sisig – the kind of local knowledge that makes a difference. Parking is available if you’re brave enough to drive in Manila traffic, though honestly, you probably don’t need a car from this location. The whole setup works well for either business travelers who want something more homey than a corporate hotel, or for people like me who prefer having a bit more space to spread out and actually live in a place rather than just sleep in it.
