I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Monitor Gear Residences, the name threw me off completely. I mean, what kind of hotel calls itself “Monitor Gear”? But after spending a few nights there in Oriental Garden Makati, I get it now. This place is all about the tech-savvy traveler, and they’ve actually nailed that concept without making it feel gimmicky.

The location in Makati is what really sold me though. You’re tucked away in this quieter residential area, but you can still walk to the main business district when you need to – takes maybe fifteen minutes on foot, or you can grab one of those jeepneys that’s always packed but somehow fun. The four-star setup here feels more like upscale serviced apartments than a traditional hotel, which works perfectly if you’re staying more than just a couple nights. Each unit has this proper kitchenette with decent appliances, not those tiny hotel fridges that barely fit a water bottle. I actually ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because the local market nearby has incredible fresh fruit – you know what, that might sound boring, but there’s something nice about having that option.

What surprised me most was how quiet it gets at night. Makati can be pretty intense during the day with all the construction and traffic, but this little pocket near Oriental Garden just… settles down. The staff seems to really know their stuff too – not in that overly formal way that makes you feel awkward, but like they genuinely want to help figure things out. When I couldn’t get the smart TV working (I mean, everything’s connected to everything these days), the maintenance guy came up and spent twenty minutes showing me all these features I didn’t even know existed. The whole place has this 9.5 rating, and honestly, I can see why. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Manila, but everything just works the way it should. The internet is actually fast – like, video call with no lag fast – the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter, and the beds are firm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand. Sometimes those simple things matter more than marble lobbies and champagne service, you know?
