Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Shell Residence by Jas O on EDSA, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s right there on one of Manila’s busiest highways, and you know how that usually goes. But honestly? This place surprised me in the best way possible.

The thing about staying on Epifanio de los Santos Avenue is that you’re literally in the middle of everything – and I actually mean that as a good thing here. You’ve got the SM Mall of Asia just a quick ride away, and getting to the airport from Pasay is ridiculously easy (trust me, your future jet-lagged self will thank you). What I didn’t expect was how well they’ve managed to create this little bubble of calm despite being on, well, EDSA. The rooms are surprisingly quiet once you close those thick windows, and the four-star amenities actually live up to the rating. The staff – and this is where you can tell it’s not just another cookie-cutter hotel – they genuinely seem to care about getting the details right. My air conditioning was perfectly tuned when I walked in, there were enough outlets by the bed (small thing, but you know how annoying that can be), and the bathroom actually had decent water pressure.

Here’s what really won me over though: the breakfast setup overlooks the city in this unexpectedly pleasant way, and you can watch Manila wake up while you’re having your coffee. It’s not fancy-fancy, but it’s real and authentic in a way that a lot of places try to fake. The pool area is compact but well-maintained – perfect for a quick dip after dealing with the heat and traffic outside. And speaking of traffic, the location works because you’re already positioned for wherever you need to go next, whether that’s Makati for business or heading south to explore. The only real downside? Well, it’s still EDSA, so you’ll hear some street noise during the day, but honestly, if you’re staying in this part of Manila, that’s just part of the experience. I’d definitely stay here again – it’s one of those places that just gets the fundamentals right without trying too hard to be something it’s not.

  It was satisfactory as a place to lay my head, but the place was dirty, small facilities and the washer in the room did not have an active holding mechanism for the washer hose so even with jerry rigging the hose, it still slipped and flooded the bathroom area.

  The host is very accommodating and mabait. Nandun na rin siya sa lobby at the time we arrived… Hindi kami naghintay Ng matagal and sinamahan kami hanggang sa room. Although it's not the room I booked, he gave an option that satisfied our comfort. Malinis Yung place, pwede namin gamitin Yung mga nasa kitchen and very comfortable Ang bed. It's a walking distance from MOA and may alfamart sa baba where we can get food.
  
  What could be improved: I didn't like the attitude of the lady guards at the swimming pool. Madami Silang sinabing bawal (sumunod Naman kami) and yet may makikita ka Namang Hindi sumunod sa sinasabi nilang "bawal". So Hindi namin na enjoy Yung swimming. But everything else from the host to the room… Thumbs up 👍
