Somerset Alabang Manila Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Somerset Alabang Manila, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another serviced apartment building in the business district. But this four-star property actually surprised me in all the right ways, and I mean that as someone who’s stayed in way too many hotels around Metro Manila over the years.
The thing about Filinvest City is that it’s got this weird bubble effect going on – you’re technically still in the chaos of Manila, but once you’re inside this planned development, everything suddenly feels… organized? Clean? The Somerset sits right in the heart of all that, which means you can actually walk to Festival Mall (huge plus if you need late-night groceries or want decent dining options without dealing with traffic). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night despite being so central – the building’s set back enough from Spectrum Midway that you don’t get the constant hum of jeepneys and tricycles that usually keeps me up in other parts of the city.
The apartments themselves feel more like actual homes than hotel rooms, which makes sense since most guests seem to be business travelers staying for weeks or months. I had a one-bedroom unit with a proper kitchen – not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation – and honestly, being able to make coffee the way I like it in the morning was a game-changer. The furniture’s that modern IKEA-ish style that photographs well but is actually comfortable to live with, and there’s enough storage space that I wasn’t living out of a suitcase the whole time. You know what really got me though? The washing machine in the unit. Such a small thing, but when you’re staying somewhere for more than a couple nights, it makes a huge difference.
The pool area up on the roof is where this place really shines – great views of the Alabang skyline (which is prettier than you’d think, especially at sunset), and it’s usually not crowded during weekday afternoons. The gym’s decent too, nothing fancy but it has the basics and stays cool, which is more than I can say for a lot of hotel fitness centers in this climate. Staff-wise, they’ve got that Filipino hospitality thing down without being overly formal about it – they remember your name after a day or two and actually seem to care if you need help with something.
Look, this isn’t going to be your Instagram-worthy boutique hotel experience with artisanal everything and a lobby that looks like a museum. But if you need a comfortable base in the south Metro area – maybe you’re working with companies in Alabang or you want easy access to both the city and places like Tagaytay – Somerset Alabang really delivers on the practical stuff that matters. The 8.8 rating it’s got makes total sense to me; it’s the kind of place where everything just works the way it should, which honestly feels pretty special in a city where that’s not always a given.
