Staycation has one of those names that makes you roll your eyes a little until you actually stay there – then it clicks. I mean, when you’re on the 28th floor of Fame Residence looking out over Manila, the whole city sprawling beneath you, you sort of get why they went with it. This four-star spot sits right on Mayflower Street in what’s honestly become one of the more interesting parts of the city, and you know what? The location actually works in ways you wouldn’t expect.

The thing about staying this high up in Manila is that you escape a lot of the street-level chaos that can honestly wear you down after a while. Room 2838 – well, any room on that side of the building really – gives you this bird’s-eye view that makes the traffic below look almost manageable. The building itself is solid, modern in that efficient Filipino way where everything just works without being flashy about it. What surprised me was how quiet it gets at night; you’d think being in the middle of everything would mean constant noise, but the elevation helps with that. The air conditioning doesn’t fight the heat so much as embrace it and win, which matters more than you might think when you’re dealing with Manila’s humidity.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the practical stuff actually works. The elevators don’t take forever (trust me, this matters when you’re on the 28th floor), the water pressure is solid, and the WiFi doesn’t drop out every time someone else in the building opens Netflix. The 9.1 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything they do, they do well. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood – like, they’ll tell you which jeepney routes actually make sense and where to grab decent coffee that won’t cost you tourist prices. There’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t oversell itself but delivers on the basics with this kind of consistency. If you’re looking for that Instagram-perfect infinity pool situation, this probably isn’t your spot, but if you want a genuine place to land in Manila where you can actually relax and figure out the city without feeling like you’re constantly being upsold, Staycation nails it. The whole setup just feels… honest, I guess. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

  It has everything you’re looking for in a tiny home. The amenities are complete, its location is convenient to every transaction that you need to do while in the Metro, it’s near transportation link and the flat itself has all the necessary things down the cleaning paraphernalia.   Very nice apartment, it had everything we needed for our 4 day stay. The small kitchen area was very well equipped with cooking utensils and cutlery. There is a washing machine in the bathroom which was a bonus. Cosy bedroom with a wardrobe and a comfortable bed. The lounge area had a smart tv with Netflix and an Xbox 360 with some throwback games, which was a nice touch! Plenty of big malls nearby with hundreds of stores and supermarkets.

  What could be improved: Exhaust for kitchen is noisy. I think it needs service… Same with the AC is a bit noisy in low gear… but tolerable.. still a nice place to stay…
